    AUO Corporation Displays its Latest Breakthrough Technologies and Full Range of Panel Sizes at The FPD Taiwan 2005

    Taiwan's largest TFT-LCD manufacturer, AUO Corporation ("AUO" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO), will exhibit its latest products and technologies in Taipei for a consecutive three days at The FPD Taiwan 2005. Integrated with a special Technology Showcase, AU Optronics will introduce its latest technologies for OLED, LTPS, and High Definition TV. On the agenda, for large-sized panel applications (mainly wide format), LCD TVs, Desktop PC Monitors, and notebooks will be on display. For medium-small sized products, the main limelight will be placed on mobile phone applications, showcasing its full range of quality sizes and product capabilities. AU Optronics is known to be the first amongst its local peers to stride with such a grand exhibit of over 130 panels simultaneously displayed in a single showcase.

    LCD TV:
    With this year's focus on LCD TV, AU Optronics will display its 20", 32", 37", and 46" wide viewing panels, whereas the 32" and 37" panels are the latest products manufactured by the company's G6 fabrication technology with response time as fast as 8 ms (Gray to Gray). The 37" and 46" panels for Full HDTV, High Definition TV are equipped with 1920 x 1080 high-resolution specifications. The company's Generation 6 and the up coming Generation 7.5 have been scheduled in anticipation of the demands of HDTV in the coming 2H2005 to mid 2006.

    Desktop PC Monitor:
    For Desktop PC Monitors, the world's first 23" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) module under production is included in the exhibition. It has high color saturation of NTSC 100% with super high resolution, and is a world-class green product. Another model, the 20.1" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) high resolution wide viewing angle module utilized the U shaped fluorescent tube. Its additional qualities are high brightness of 450 nits, high contrast ratio of 800:1, fast response time of 8 ms (Gray to Gray) – which is believed to be the world leading speed for an equivalent application. The company's 20.1" UXGA module, which is believed to be the thinnest of its kinds, is qualified with 700:1 high contrast and 1600 x 1200 high resolution.

    Notebook:
    AU Optronics, as the first to produce 12.1" and 14" wide format panel specifically for notebook application, has initiated a trend. Presently, wide format modules have a 2 to 1 higher demand than the traditional screens. A selection of 12.1"- to 17"-size wide format panels will be on display, of which 14.1" with 16:10 format has 200 nits high brightness and 300:1 high contrast ratio. It is produced by AUO's G4 fab, with an optimally cut of 8 x 14.1" pieces in one economical cut with glare type finish. The 17" WXGA+(1440 x 900) panel is specified with characteristics equivalent to Desktop PC Monitors at 385 nits high brightness and 400:1 high contrast ratio.

    Targeted for the needs of industrial application, this high performance 12.1" SVGA (800 x 600) panel is equipped with wide temperature range, Green Design, world leading 400 nits high brightness, 500:1 high contrast, and long lamp life of more than 3 years and LVDS interface.
