AU Optronics ("AUO" or the "the Company") (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO) President and COO, HB Chen, has been invited to deliver the opening address, at The third annual SID (Society for Information Display) Business Conference, taking place this year in Boston, USA. The company's V.P. of AUO Technology Center, Dr. CT Liu will guest speak at SID's Technical Symposium. Of the seven papers submitted, the company's self-developed Double-Sided AMOLED has been recognized for the SID Distinguish Paper Award, a significant recognition of the company's innovative capabilities.

?

SID, based in the U.S. with over 6000 members worldwide, consists of professionals involved in both the technical and business aspects of display research, design, manufacturing, applications, marketing, and sales. AUO's V.P. and CTO, Dr. Fang-Chen Luo, is SID 2005 Annual Meeting Program Chair, the first Asian member ever to be bestowed this honor, and is also the new SID Vice President, Asia Region. Dr. Luo stated, "Out of more than 450 oral and poster papers submitted, Taiwan's submission rate has increased substantially more than other countries such as; Korea, Japan, and the United States. With 47 papers submitted, Taiwan's R&D has been very aggressive in its path." Purely on a country basis, AUO has submitted the most papers amongst its domestic peers in Taiwan. The company's self-developed Double-Sided AMOLED has been chosen for the SID Distinguish Paper Award – a first ever to be awarded to a Taiwan corporate. Each year, SID Technical Program Committee selects the best papers according to its originality and novelty of work, the significance of the results, and the clarity of the written summary that appears in the "SID International Symposium Digest of Papers".

Last year's recipient of SID's Special Recognition Award, AUO President and COO, H.B. Chen, will be opening the SID Business Conference on May 25th, "2005: Beyond the Crystal Gateway" - highlighting AMLCD progress, especially the history and future path of the display industry in Taiwan. Dr. CT Liu, V.P. of AUO Technology Center, with over 800 R&D engineers under his wing, has been invited to guest speak on May 27th, "Image Processing and Colour Management for Large-Sized LCD TV's".
