AUO Corporation ("AUO" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO) President, Mr. H.B. Chen, is the recipient of the globally recognized Society for Information Display (SID) Special Recognition Award for his dedicated contribution to and outstanding achievements in the TFT-LCD industry.

SID is based in the U.S. and has over 6000 members worldwide, consisting of professionals involved in both the technical and business aspects of display research, design, manufacturing, applications, marketing, and sales. The SID board of directors grants several Special Recognition Awards each year to members of the technical and scientific community for distinguished and valued contributions in the information display field. This year the award ceremony took place on May 24th in Seattle, Washington.

With this award, Mr. Chen is being recognized for his involvement in the advancement of the TFT-LCD industry's process technology, as well as its research and development and services. Since joining Acer Display (which later became AU Optronics) as general manager in 1997, Mr. Chen has been actively involved in growth of the company. He has played a key role in the jointly development of G3.5 TFT-LCD technology with Japan's IBM as well as importing the latest technologies into Taiwan. Under Mr. Chen's vision and leadership, AU Optronics has grown into a leader in the TFT-LCD industry. Mr. Chen was awarded the Gold Panel Award for Greatest Industry Contribution in 2001 by the Republic of China government and was nominated chairman of the Taiwan TFT-LCD Association (TTLA) two years running.
